Teechers

What

How

why

Our assessment was based on the play Teechers.

Our first scene was the Christmas scene at the start of act two.  I played the role of Hobby who was a troublesome teen who had many insecurity’s about her weight. Despite this she wanted to shine and be treated just like anybody else.

Alice played the role of Gail who was a outgoing flirtatious girl whom craved Centre of attention. She was also a friend of Hobby’s and Salty’s.

Mackenzie played the role of a shop keeper and Martin Roebuck.

We showed Hobby as a insecure teen by talking quiet towards the start and lurking towards the background. We also showed her constantly eating and wiping crumbs of her shoulder. This could mean that she dealt with her insecurities towards food as she used this as a coping method. She could also use this as it will always be there. Towards the end of the scene she got louder to show that she was a troublesome teen. This could also show that she liked to keep her insecurities inside and block people out in her own world.

We showed Alice as centre of attention as always being at the front and being flirtatious by kicking her legs and grinning like a chesser cat. We also showed she was out going by talking loudly thoughout the seen. Which implies she is happy with herself.

In our performance of John Godbers play there was a scene in which Gail was attempting to song Mr. Nixon in his car, but her attempts were duly stopped by Oggy who hopped into the back seat of the car and began aggravating Mr. Nixon.  We showed how annoyed Nixon was getting with the tone in his voice. At the start of the argument Nixon had a more polite tone as if he was simply asking Oggy to exit the vehicle, but gradually got fiercer up to the point where he smacked Oggy. This was a very significant part as it showed Oggy that Mr. Nixon was going to stand up to him and that he wasn’t such a pushover.

My understanding of john Godber play called ‘teechers’, there are three character Gail, hobby, and Salty they all have different personalities. Hobby’s personality is loud mouthed, largely built in size and eats to comfort herself and help her fell happy. Gail’s personality is she is always flirts with Mr. Nixon because she fancy’s him. In the scene we did was the Christmas scene   I played Gail she was very flirtatious she was with Mr. Nixon.  I think she like getting all the attention in this play Miriam played   hobby she all way liked eating food  and little snack    she was very largely fat  and Mackenzie  play salty. We done this because   we thought each person suited their roles well,.

During our “teechers” assessment I played the role of oggy (the school hard nut) in my first scene. Half way into the scene I came on acting all cool and walking with my arms swinging beside me. I did this to show that because he is hard he has to keep a reputation and keep being the hard kid at all times so he has to make an impression of being cool.I did this by having a sort of hunch on my back to show that I can’t be bothered to stand up straight and I think john Godber put oggy in the play to show the power changes between the 1970’s to the 1980’s were teachers were no longer able to use the Kane so the pupils started to take control and that’s why everyone is scared of oggy because he has made it clear that he is the boss with the power. Also I had to slouch to interpret that I don’t care and I swung my arms acting like I had swag meaning that I was popular and needed an action for me to stand out as being “oggy moxon”. When I approached Gail (the chavvy slut) my voice changed to a confident swagger boy who felt self-assured that he was going to pull Gail and get her into coming to his dad’s party. I used this approach because it interprets oggy as being the mean kid who thinks he can walk up to a girl and get her in bed by just saying “hi” which in the real world does not work. I proved this by making my voice deep and talking like a chav to show a manly but aggressive boy. The deep voice also shows that oggy is the dominate one of the conversation and that he is the Alfa male when really he is just getting mugged off.

In our performance the scene we done where the planning of the party and after the dance  Mr. Nixon’s car scene hobbie was performed by georgie hobbie liked eating little snacks throughout the day and shes very shy and is chubby georgie played her by waddling when walking and kept on eating things and we showed she was shy by her not looking at a person when talking  I acted gail by being bossy towards hobbie and always being right and later on brooklynne played oggy in the car scene he always trys to annoy people and brooklynne talking like a chav And swears which means she has no respect for others and doesn’t care Mr. Nixon was trying to get the kids more involved in school and show its not  boring to the students and make it more  fun to learn

The ‘Morning’ Scene:

We chose to do this scene to, not only demonstrate our use of multirole, but to give the audience a sense of the individual personalities at Whitewall School. Take my parts for example, for this scene alone I had to play 7 separate roles! Although this does include non-speaking roles as well, I still had to use different body language, facial features and gestures to imply those different characters. However with the speaking parts, some of them were often quite similar. For example, I played Gail at one point and then ‘Girl-with-gum’ at another. This meant that, because of these characters common dislike for school, the personalities might be difficult to portray without making them seen to similar. However, in our version of the scene, we wanted to show the idea that the ‘Girl-with-gum’ could not care less about the teacher, whereas Gail, being the flirtatious girl that she is, would most probably be very interested in the teacher considering that he is male. From this, I can choose distinct, stereotypical drama technique that represent these slightly different personalities; gestures. The gesture I used was that of ‘fiddling with my hair’. However, for when I was Gail, I curled the hair around my finger so to imply that she was trying to appear girly and sweet (flirting), but when I did it as the ‘Girl-with-gum’, I was just running my fingers through it to imply boredom or a desire to be somewhere else (thought). This just goes to show that, although being very similar, this gesture, if done in two different ways, can mean two completely different things.

If I were to do this scene with the aid of lights and music, I would have a set piece for when each actor came in, that clearly represented each character to further the audience’s understanding of the separate personalities. I would also use a darker spotlight and maybe even a step or block for the more sinister characters, (Mr Basford), to help show both personality and status.

Drama Assessment Teechers

In our first scene, of our class production of Teechers, my interpolation of Miss Maureen Whitham. When playing this Character I had to show Miss Maureen Whitham being not in control. I did this by making the character talk slightly slower and a little quieter also she didn’t move around very much. I did this because Miss Maureen Whitham, being a teacher who can’t control her students, is a very soft teacher who doesn’t like to get in anyone’s way.

In our second scene we did a scene between Gale, Hobby and Mr. Nixon. Mr. Nixon arrives late to his lesson. When he arrives to his class, five minutes late, his is in shock to find all his students just sitting around doing nothing. The scene then turns over to Hobby and Gale who are both just sat on the chairs. Hobby is eating a chocolate bar and Gale is sat next to her talking to each over. To do this we had Mr. Nixon over the other side of the room talking to other students. Gale that notices Mr. Nixon on the other side of the room and suddenly has a big smile on her face. Talking to Hobby when Nixon is walking over to them Gale tries her best to flirt with him. We do this by Gale walking up to Mr. Nixon and him pushing her away. We did this scene so the audience could get the idea of the characters. Gale being the Flirt, Hobby being the fat one always eating and Mr. Nixon being the new teacher trying to do his best as being a good teacher around the school.
